Success Stories

PEOPLE MAKE CONSERVATION POSSIBLE

THESE ARE THE PERSONAL STORIES BEHIND THIS GOOD WORK

The following stories provide a glimpse into the lives of the families, nonprofits and working farms who have protected their land with the Land Trust of Virginia. The stories are inspired by the diversity of lands, family motivations, and love of our rural way of life; there are many more stories like these, with over 200 conservation easements now completed.

MOST PROPERTIES ARE NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

All of the conserved properties remain in private ownership and are not open to the public unless specifically noted. The lands remain on the tax rolls and are managed by the landowners.

These conserved lands are critical farm and forest lands, wetlands and waterways, historic sites, wildlife habitat, scenic views, and places for people to connect with nature, close to home. They are often the landscapes that have made, and continue to make, Virginia the special place it is today.

IS CONSERVATION RIGHT FOR YOU?

If you would like to discuss if placing your property in a conservation easement with the Land Trust of Virginia is right for you, please contact Sally Price, Executive Director, with your inquiries. She can be reached by phone at (540)-687-8441 or by email at sally@landtrustva.org

The “New Normal”… at JK Community Farms

We are doing everything we can to grow to meet the need of our community and ensure that everyone has access to healthy food. As food donations from grocery stores to food pantries have diminished, the JK Community Farm has become a lifeline for thousands of families in our community.

Echo’s Earth Farm

Echo’s Earth Farm

There’s nothing quite like knowing where your food comes from. And while some people may return to buying the cheaper foods found at the grocery and big box stores, we anticipate that more people will stick with us as they increasingly value the new personal relationships they have with their food and appreciate the higher quality that comes with small farms like ours.
